The idea that black women must always be perfectly well-behaved — or risk shaming the community-at-large – is both unrealistic and unfair. We are fighting a battle that is unique to women of color in this country, and that is the duality of asserting our individual identities separate from stereotypical imagery, while fighting for the elevation of our communities as a whole. This places us in the precarious position of not being able to ignore the pervasive effects of reality television, while still recognizing that every, single one of these women has the right to present themselves to the world as they choose – whether anyone agrees or not.

Azealia Banks | JUMANJI

One of the Hip-Hop industries newest gems, Azealia Banks, has released another track today - “Jumanji”. Expected to land on her 1991 EP, the song is pretty much what you’d expect [amazing], with exquisite production by Hudson Mohawke. Check it out (above)!

He was the opening act for Childish Gambino last night and he was going in on this song. When the beat picks up, he went crazy dancing. I was so entertained and hype.

on my way to the ‘Sota

A few recent pics of myself

its been a while

So i haven’t posted anything personal on tumblr for a while and I do apologize…I’ve been working a lot and just living life as best I can. There have been some new developments in my life though.

1) I’ve discovered that I am me. That sounds crazy i know, but i’ve never been this much of me…ever. I feel like everyday when i look in the mirror I see me. When I talk to people I am showing them me. its me talking and doing. Not some product of society or my environment or someone who tries to fit in or mesh…its me all day baby! lol…and it feels amazing.

2) this is pushing a whole new level of exposure, for me anyways, but I’ve also discovered, well not so much discovered but whateva…that I have this huge crush on this GIRL at work. Thats right I said it…a girl. No, I wouldn’t categorize myself as gay or bi- or whatever label people like to use. I don’t like a persons specific body parts. I don’t necessarily like this girl but this “person”. It is what it is so if by societies standards I’m gay or bi or whatever (though i’ve never messed with either sex, but whatevs) then call it what you would like. Its something about her that makes me want to know her. Idk. Its complicated more than you could understand at this moment. i’m a bit obsessed at the moment but eventually i won’t be as obsessed right…??? Anywho, thats new. I’ll talk about it later

3) Work is good…pay is good.

4)and I’m in Minnesota at this very moment…thats pretty much it.

5) Oh and I can’t forget…I love myself!! lol…that’s pretty much it
